No Rabbit Openings for 2019. Sorry for any inconvenience

Copper Mountain Abattoir now does Rabbit processing.

  • Please have your rabbits on site between 6:00-8:00am.

  • Please remove food from rabbits 12 hours prior.

  • Please pick up your rabbits between 4-6pm on the same day.

As a result of the Viral Hemorrhagic Disease (VHD) in BC  Copper Mountain Processing is taking extreme caution, we will still process your rabbits, however for Bio security reasons you will not be allowed on the property. A staff member will meet you on Buckhorn Road and transfer your rabbits into disposable boxes which will be burned at the end of the day. A staff member will meet you at an arranged time for you to pick up your processed rabbits on Buckhorn Road.

In consultation with The BC Meat Inspectors this protocol will be enforced until further notice.

 Viral Hemorrhagic Disease (VHD);

VHD is highly contagious. It can be spread by:

  • Contact of a rabbit with inanimate objects contaminated by the virus (i.e. via fomites). These objects would include clothing, shoes, and car and truck tires.

  • Direct contact of a rabbit with an infected rabbit or the feces of an infected rabbit.

  • Contact with rabbit products such as fur, meat or wool from infected rabbits.

  • Insects, birds, and animals such as rodents are known to spread the virus by acting as indirect hosts. They can transport the disease, for example, from an infected rabbit to an unaffected rabbit.

  • Humans can spread the virus to their rabbits if they have been in contact with infected rabbits or in contact with objects contaminated by the virus, including feces from an infected rabbit.
